Detroit Lions release promising former Cleveland Browns wide receiver

The Detroit Lions have decided to release a promising former wide receiver from the Cleveland Browns.

According to a report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Lions have released wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones.

At 25, Peoples-Jones' tenure with Detroit didn't go as planned at all. He only spent one year with the team and ended up not getting a major role.

During the 2023 season with the Lions, Peoples-Jones played in eight games and caught only five passes for 58 yards.

Not long ago, Peoples-Jones was considered a promising wide receiver for the Browns. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and many thought he had a chance to be part of the future of the offense.

Peoples-Jones also had some good years in Cleveland. During his entire 58-game NFL career, he caught 122 passes for 1,895 yards and eight touchdowns.

His best season was 2022, when he caught 61 passes for 839 yards and three touchdowns for the Browns.

Hopefully he can bounce back and get things under control. The talent is still there and he is still young. It is likely that another team will swoop in and give him another chance in the near future.

Still, there will be plenty of news involving Cleveland and former Browns players in the next few hours as teams trim their rosters to get to the final 53. Peoples-Jones happened to be one of those cuts, adding to the disappointing past few years.
