Moncks Corner man charged with armed robbery in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with armed robberies in downtown Charleston.

Derrick Gaillard of Moncks Corner is charged with four counts of armed robbery, first-degree assault and criminal conspiracy.

At around 1am on Sunday, officers were called to the Pitt Street, Montague Street, Coming Street and Duncan Street areas for reports of two armed robberies that had occurred within minutes of each other.

The victims told police the suspects pointed guns at them and stole their belongings, Sergeant Chris Stinson said.

The College of Charleston Public Safety and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.

Gaillard was arrested on Monday and taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
