While Microsoft is less vocal about eliminating the Control Panel, it is still clear that the Control Panel will be eliminated.

Using Windows feels like a constant negotiation with a hostile and unstable terrorist I've paid for the privilege, so I was prepared to get upset about the Control Panel being formally “deprecated” in favor of the newer Settings menu. But then, as Ars Technica reports, Microsoft softened its words, if not the meaning behind them, and, more importantly, I don't think the big M is really doing anything wrong.this time.

A Windows support page was recently updated with the wording “Control Panel is currently being phased out in favor of the Settings app, which offers a more modern and streamlined experience.” After extensive discussion and reporting on the change, including PC World's editorial “Windows needs to rip Control Panel out of my cold, dead hands” (much respect), Microsoft changed the wording to: “Many of the settings in Control Panel are currently being migrated to the Settings app, which offers a more modern and streamlined experience.”
