Florida man arrested for murder in Dublin

A Florida man, now in custody for at least the second time in recent years, has been identified as the prime suspect in the murder investigation following a fatal shooting in Dublin last Friday – after previously being charged with an attempted shooting in his home state in 2020.

Nicholas Paleveda, 38, was arrested Saturday in a Walmart parking lot in Barstow on a warrant obtained by Dublin Police Services during the investigation into the shooting death of a 37-year-old man at the Emerald Park apartment complex, 5050 Hacienda Drive, Friday afternoon.

“Dublin Police would like to thank the community and surrounding law enforcement agencies for their assistance in removing this dangerous individual from the streets so quickly,” a police spokesperson said in a press release on Monday. “This incident remains actively investigated.”

The victim's name had not been publicly released as of Monday afternoon. DPS investigators are continuing to work to determine the motive for the attack and the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Paleveda was previously arrested in Gainesville, Florida, in 2020 for attempting to shoot his roommate in an apartment complex there. He eventually pleaded guilty and no contest to the charge of third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to three years' probation, ending in May 2023.
