Police are looking for the driver involved in the accident in Sheridan

The accident occurred on August 16 in Sheridan on Highway 285 near River Point Parkway.

SHERIDAN, Colorado – A 21-year-old motorcyclist is fighting for his life after an accident in Sheridan earlier this month.

On August 16 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to a crash on Highway 285 near River Point Parkway. Authorities said the crash involved a car and a motorcycle and the driver left the scene without rendering aid or giving information.

“It's just disgusting. I can't imagine leaving someone on the side of the road,” said Alexander Makarov.

Makarov identified his brother Sean Ayers as the person injured in the accident.

“Witnesses who stopped said that another vehicle entered his lane and Sean tried to swerve to avoid being hit by the car. In doing so, he lost control of his motorcycle. They believe he crashed into a pole,” Makarov said.

Sheridan police told 9NEWS that three people assisted the victim at the scene. Makarov said one of them was a medical professional.

“A doctor who had just left his shift stopped after the accident and helped with CPR until the ambulance arrived,” he explained. “We don't know where we would be if he hadn't stopped.”

Makarov said Ayers was seriously injured. He said doctors had to remove part of Ayers' skull to reduce swelling and he still hasn't woken up.

Makarov has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover some of the costs incurred by Ayers and his family as a result of this incident.

“At this point, we don't know what quality of life he's going to have when he wakes up,” Makarov added. “It doesn't matter what condition he wakes up in, it's going to affect him for the rest of his life and we just don't know what that's going to look like.”

Sheridan Police Chief Jeffrey Martinez said the case is a high priority for police, stressing that anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the driver involved should contact Detective Gerlach at 303-438-3243.

Makarov hopes that the driver will come forward.

“Take responsibility for what you have done,” he continued. “Stand up and let's put this chapter behind us. Hopefully everyone will be OK and we can move on with our lives.”
