Paroled inmate accused of murdering sneaker retailer ‘Upscale Cracc’ caught partly by his own kicks: officials

A ruthless resurrection inmate accused of killing popular SoHo sneaker reseller Upscale Cracc in June was beaten to death partially with his own black and yellow shoes, new court documents show.

Jayquan Straker, 35, was released from prison in September after serving a 10-year sentence for a 2013 burglary in Canarsie, Brooklyn. He and a cronies had broken into a home disguised as FedEx men and forced the family, including a 10-year-old and a six-year-old, to the ground at gunpoint.

The suspect was still on parole when he was arrested within three months of his release for suspected illegal possession of weapons, law enforcement sources said.

The outcome of the weapons case against Straker is unclear – the files are under seal, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.

But on June 25, Straker was free again – when he and an accomplice allegedly killed 31-year-old Javier Osorio-Mejia, an entrepreneur described online as “a fixture in New York City sneaker releases for years.”

Straker, of upstate Poughkeepsie, was linked to the gruesome murder using video from the Manhattan crime scene and his own phone. In both videos, he was seen wearing the easily identifiable sneakers, court documents say.

The police officers “viewed videos on iCloud showing the defendant wearing black and yellow sneakers that matched the black and yellow sneakers worn by the individual who fired the firearm at 40 Greene Street,” the criminal complaint states.

Straker was arrested on Saturday, charged with Osorio-Mejia's murder and held without bail.

There is still uncertainty about his alleged accomplice.

The suspects are said to have observed their victim at a strip club, the Dream Gentleman's Club in Queens, and then followed him as Osorio-Mejia drove away with a woman in his white Land Rover.

Osorio-Mejia stopped in SoHo and got out of the expensive car to go to the bathroom, and that's when he was ambushed by the robbers, authorities say.

Straker is accused of pulling out a gun and shooting him – and then, together with his evil buddy, robbing the victim's limp body, including a Rolex.

It is believed that Osorio-Mejia was targeted because of the flashy jewelry he wore in online photos.
