Woman sentenced to 30 years in prison for 2022 murder in Madison County, Texas

On February 9, 2022, a woman was reported missing. As it turned out, she was shot by Amber Jordan while under the influence of drugs. She will now spend 50 years in prison.

MADISON COUNTY, Texas – A woman involved in the murder of a missing person found dead will spend the next half century in prison.

According to the Madison County District Attorney's Office, Megan Martinez was reported missing to the Madison County Sheriff's Office on February 9, 2022. As authorities began investigating where she had gone, they learned where she had been before her disappearance.

Authorities were provided with information and video showing Martinez getting into a car owned and driven by Amber Jordan, now 30, at an area store. Authorities questioned Jordan and had her car impounded as part of the investigation.

During the course of the investigation, Martinez's blood was found in Jordan's car. In a later interview with an investigator, she apologetically admitted that she had been under the influence of drugs and believed she had shot Martinez. This was confirmed by an autopsy, which found that Martinez died from a gunshot wound.

Jordan was sentenced by Judge JD Langley on August 19 after pleading guilty to murder, a first-degree felony. As part of the agreement she entered into, she must serve at least half of her 50-year sentence before she is eligible for parole.

“I am proud that we were finally able to get justice for Megan Martinez and her family,” District Attorney Courtney Cain said in a press release. “This was a senseless act of violence that will impact the Martinez family for the rest of their lives. I am grateful for the hard work of law enforcement.”
