Multnomah County Bridge Videos | News Radio 1190 KEX

Multnomah County Transportation is releasing a special video series designed to give the public a glimpse into the six Willamette River bridges the county maintains, from the perspective of those who work on them every day. Watch the entire series here!

Bridge maintenance specialists will take you below the deck of the Burnside Bridge to see how the mechanics work. Peek inside the arches of the Sellwood Bridge and hear from engineers about the unique challenges of replacing the Sellwood and Wapato bridges. The public can also see how workers worked on the Morrison Bridge on a massive safety platform several hundred feet up.

A lot of work goes into keeping the county's bridges safe and usable. This video series provides an inside look at this frequent and important maintenance and takes the public inside areas of the county's bridges that most don't get to see.

“A bridge is a huge piece of machinery,” said Mindy Bishop, Multnomah County bridge maintenance specialist. “You have to maintain your machinery just like you maintain a car. If you don't add oil, it won't move forward.”

Multnomah County maintains five Willamette River bridges: the Sellwood, Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside and Broadway bridges, and the Wapato Bridge over the Multnomah Channel. For more information, visit
