Public prosecutor completes evidence gathering in “7 deadly sins” case

DECATUR, Alabama (WAFF) – Plaintiffs ended the trial Monday by dropping their charges against Frederic Rogers.

The state showed video evidence of Rogers speaking to police in Morgan County, where he could be seen admitting his involvement in the murder of seven people in Valhermoso Springs four years ago.

In the video, Rogers can be heard telling police that he and co-defendant John Michael Legg only planned to kill Jeremy Roberts, but killed six other people because they witnessed the murder.

Rogers told police he and Legg planned to ambush Roberts at a dinner party at a home in Valhermoso Springs. Rogers said he went into the house first and told Legg to follow him when he heard the gunshots.

Rogers also told investigators that he felt bad about killing the other victims because one of them was a teenager. The victims ranged in age from 17 to 45. Keep in mind that we learned that some of these victims all belonged to a club or group called “The 7 Deadly Sins” and that this all stemmed from stolen drugs and a fight between roommates.

Rogers even explained to investigators in detail that he had poured gasoline on the victims and set the house on fire.

The trial will continue on Tuesday morning, with the defense calling the first witnesses to the stand.
