The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly strengthened their defense on Monday.

According to NFL Network Ian RapoportThe defending champions signed linebacker Cameron Thomas from the Arizona Cardinals for a seventh-round draft pick. Rapoport noted that this gives the Chiefs “some additional upside.”

Arizona selected Thomas in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of San Diego State University, but he played only a supporting role for the NFC West team.

As a rookie, he played in all 17 games and recorded 18 tackles, three sacks and one pass defense. Last season, he played in 15 games and finished with 22 tackles, zero sacks, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.

Maybe a change of scenery can help him unlock some of the potential the Cardinals surely recognized when they selected him in the mid-round in 2022.

Thomas joins a Chiefs team that had great success reaching the quarterback last season.

They were second in the league with 57 sacks, which earned them a place in the postseason and eventual Super Bowl title. It was their second Lombardi Trophy in a row and their third in the last five years, and anything less than another ring would be a disappointment to the league's golden standard.

Just the possibility that Thomas can help them accomplish just that as an additional pass rusher makes it worth giving up a seventh-round pick.
