Leaked gameplay footage from canceled Crysis Next

Before the announcement of Crysis 4, Crytek was working on a multiplayer game based on the Crysis series called Crysis Next. And today a video was leaked showing 13 minutes of gameplay footage from it.

I'm sure Crytek will remove it immediately, so I highly recommend checking it out while you still can. I'll also update this article with mirrors.

Crysis Next was a multiplayer third-person game. Players could choose a class and compete against each other. In the beta version of the video, we see three classes. These are the Frontliner, the Engineer and the Flanker.

As you'll see, the beta contains a lot of placeholder art, so don't expect to be wowed by it in any way. Still, this is something that our Crysis fans might be interested in.

Honestly, I'm glad this game was cancelled so we could get a proper single-player Crysis game. Don't get me wrong, I loved the multiplayer of the first Crysis game. However, Crysis Next seems to be a game that no one asked for. At least not as a standalone title.

What would be really cool is if Crytek added Crysis Next to Crysis 4. You know, like back when games had great SP and MP modes. If Crytek did that, all the better.

Crytek officially announced Crysis 4 in January 2022. And we haven't heard anything about it since. As I wrote in April 2023, you shouldn't expect to be able to play it anytime soon. Back then, the team was looking for a Lead Producer, Lead AI Programmer, and Lead Environment Artist. That basically meant that development was still in very early stages. And since most games take about 3-5 years to develop, we can expect to get it in 2026 or 2027 at the earliest.

Anyway, there's nothing more to add here. For now, enjoy the gameplay video and stay tuned for more!
