Fatal accident on Highway 85 in San Jose – NBC Bay Area

Two people were killed in San Jose on Monday afternoon when they were struck head-on by a white Toyota pickup truck traveling the wrong way on Highway 85, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred around 3:40 p.m. near the intersection with Highway 87.

The Toyota pickup truck was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it collided with a Tesla, according to the CHP.

The driver and a passenger of the Tesla were killed, the CHP said. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck is a 39-year-old man from Orlando, Florida.

According to the CHP, the victims were a 47-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy from San Jose. As of Monday evening, the CHP had not released their names.

CHP has not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

All northbound lanes of Highway 85 were closed for hours, but have now reopened.
