Samson avoids prison sentence, NOCOMO rejects plea deal | News

MARYVILLE, Missouri – In a statement read in court Monday, the board of directors of NOCOMO Industries rejected an agreement that would have required former CEO Nicki Samson to serve five years' probation for stealing $483,000 from the sheltered workshop without entering a guilty plea.

In court Monday morning, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Deiter and Samson's attorney Keith Drill presented Judge Corey Herron with what is known as an “Alford plea,” in which the defendant accepts criminal punishment and admits that a jury would likely find him guilty if indicted – but does not admit guilt. Drill said the plea was intended to protect Samson from possible future civil lawsuits.
