Accident in Campbell Street ends with car resting on its bumper, driver dead

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – A car crash occurred at around 2:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Cambell Street and St. Patrick Street in Rapid City.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of a white sedan was driving south on Campbell Street when he tried to avoid another vehicle, lost control and crashed.

The vehicle eventually came to rest on its front bumper in a parking lot southeast of the intersection.

Several emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of the accident. When they arrived, they reportedly found the driver dead in the car and took him to an ambulance in a body bag.

Drake Stewart saw the accident.

“I heard tires screeching, heard someone screaming and when I looked back I saw the car hit the curb,” Stewart said. “And after that it was all smoke. It looked like he was probably going 75 to 80 miles per hour, swerving through traffic and losing control of his vehicle.”

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. The accident investigation is ongoing and further details will be released shortly. The name of the driver has not yet been released.
