The big Netflix true crime series is getting a spinoff and it's coming very soon

If you're looking for your next true crime obsession, look no further because Worst Roommate Ever is getting its own spin-off series on Netflix, and the release date is sooner than you might think.

The second season of Worst Roommate Ever debuted in July and continues the anthology format by introducing us to four shocking cases of roommates where leaving the toilet seat up seems like a selfless act of kindness.

Netflix has another highlight in store when it comes to true crime: The new documentary series “Worst Ex Ever” will be released soon and keeps its promise: Instead of hellish roommates, the focus is on failed love relationships.

Best of all, the first chapter of the spin-off will be hitting the streaming service very soon, so here's when to expect Worst Ex Ever and what it's about. Warning: Some people may find this content disturbing.

Release date and time

Worst Ex Ever will be released on Netflix on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 12:00 a.m. PT (3:00 a.m. ET).

If you are not in the US, you can expect arrival worldwide as follows:

  • 4am, Brazil
  • 8am UK
  • 9:00 a.m. Central European Summer Time
  • 12:30 Indian Standard Time
  • 5pm Australia
  • 7pm New Zealand

All four episodes can be streamed simultaneously, meaning you don't have to tune in every week to see new episodes.

Although the release date of “Worst Ex Ever” was originally set for August 14, Netflix changed the schedule after “American Murder: Laci Peterson” was added to the schedule for that day.

The Worst Ex Ever to investigate four terrifying cases

From gruesome betrayals to murder plots, The new true crime series revolves around four cases of nightmare ex-partners.

Although you'll have to wait to learn more, we do know that Episode 1, “Dating the Devil,” will feature several women sharing their experiences with Benjamin Obadiah Foster, including survivor Justine Siemens.

Before they met, Foster had already served a prison sentence for assault, but kept his violent past a secret. When Siemens found out, she reported it to her employer and he was fired.

Ben's ex Amber also appears in Worst Ex Ever to tell her story

Foster then kidnapped Siemens and abused her for days. “Torture is an understatement for what I went through,” she says in the documentary series.

What followed was a manhunt that left two men dead and ended on January 31, 2023, when Foster died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His case is a haunting reminder of how a seemingly perfect partner can become your worst nightmare, as “Worst Ex Ever” reveals through true testimony from those involved.

According to Netflix's official synopsis, “The new format – which builds on the universal feeling of wondering how much you really know about your partner – brings you even more shocking stories of betrayal, violence and deceit.

“Composed of compelling witness testimony, bodycam footage and animated reenactments, 'Worst Ex Ever' reveals the disturbing stories of monstrous past relationships.”
