Student arrested after stabbing at Palm Bay High in Melbourne

According to Melbourne police, one of the two students involved in the stabbing at Palm Bay High School on Monday has been arrested.

Information about the teenager has not yet been released and it was not immediately known where the teenager was being held.

“We have made an arrest,” said Sergeant Ben Slover, spokesman for Melbourne police.

The arrest came after several Melbourne Police patrol officers were called to the school grounds around 1 p.m. Tuesday to investigate reports that at least two students had been stabbed in an altercation. Brevard Public Schools and police officials confirmed Monday that the two were male students. One of the students suffered a stab wound to the abdomen and the other a cut to the hand.

An unmarked Melbourne Police patrol car is seen on the campus of Palm Bay High School on Monday afternoon following a stabbing incident involving two students.

Witnesses said the more seriously injured student stumbled into the office with the help of two other people. One witness was able to apply pressure to the wound while paramedics were called.

The 1,400-student Melbourne campus on the corner of Babcock Street and Pirate Lane was cordoned off while officers searched the site.
