Subway joins the trend of inexpensive menus and lowers prices for 12-inch portions to $6.99

UNDATED (WKRC) – Subway has joined the discount menu trend and drastically slashed the prices of its footlong sandwiches.

According to CBS News, Subway announced last Friday that it would cut the price of its 12-inch sandwiches to $6.99, which equates to as much as $14 in some stores.

The offer is now available for purchases made through the Subway app or official website using the code “699FL” according to the network.

CBS reported that the promotion will only be available until September 8th.

“Today, restaurant choices are more extensive than ever, and all too often that means sacrificing quality, selection or taste to find an affordable meal,” said Doug Fry, president of Subway North America, in a statement provided to CBS.

Several restaurants and fast-food chains have followed McDonald's lead and introduced discounted meal deals. McDonald's had previously faced heavy criticism on social media after receipts for unusually expensive meals went viral.

The following chains are offering cheap meals to lure back their inflation-weary customers:

Burger King– $5 menu deal

Wendy's –$3 breakfast deal

Starbucks – Pairing offer for $5 to $6

Taco Bell – $7 “Luxury Cravings Box”

Jimmy John's – $10 “Complete Meal”

Chili's – “3 for me” offer
