Packers release WR Samori Toure during final cuts

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers released wide receiver Samori Toure as part of their final cuts on Tuesday.

Toure was selected by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2022 draft. He played in 22 games in his first two NFL seasons and caught 13 passes for 160 yards, but never made a major developmental step and then fell into a overloaded position group at wide receiver in Green Bay.

Last season, Touré averaged just 3.9 metres per target and caught only eight of his 18 targeted passes.

Toure was, at best, the No. 8 wide receiver in depth behind Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Malik Heath, Bo Melton and Grant DuBose.

It's unclear if Toure is a candidate to return to Green Bay for the practice squad, but given the strong receiver selection, he could look for an opportunity elsewhere.

Toure played in 11 games for the Packers last season and was involved in 139 offensive actions. Although he has experience as a returner, his experience on special teams is almost zero – he played just three snaps on special teams in his first two seasons.

The 26-year-old was selected 258th in the 2022 draft.
