Officers arrest two men in Berkeley County car theft case

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) – According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, two 18-year-olds have been charged in connection with a carjacking Sunday evening in which the victim was hiding in a wooded area.

According to jail records, Mataiest Cha'vez Johnson and Clyde Jaheim Davis, both 18, are charged with auto theft.

Officers said they received a 911 call around 11 p.m. Sunday night from a woman who reported being the victim of a carjacking at gunpoint on Highway 41 and hiding in a wooded area off the road.

Officers found her on the side of the road and she said her vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the victim was able to lead officers to the area where he was prior to the carjacking. Officers found the victim's vehicle near a home on Highpoint Circle.

Johnson and Davis were taken to Hill-Finklea Prison.
