South Carolina's Tuesday injury report: Old Dominion Week

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer said last week that offensive linemen Jakai Moore And Aaron Parks would likely be out for a while due to injury, and he confirmed this at the press conference on the first matchday of the season on Tuesday.

“He's going to be out,” Beamer said of Moore. “He's going to be out for a while, definitely until Saturday. He and Aaron Parks are both going to be out. When he comes back, we'll let you know, but it's not going to be a week-to-week thing right now.”

Beamer suggested last Thursday that Parks' return to the field midseason would be an optimistic time. The redshirt senior transferred from Oklahoma in the offseason and appeared to be in contention for the backup right tackle position before spraining his ankle in a recent scrimmage.

Moore, a sixth-year player who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, was designated the Gamecocks' swing man because of his abilities as a tackle and guard.

The fourth-year head coach did not provide any other specific injury updates on Tuesday. Beamer briefly mentioned offensive lineman Markee Andersonwho was limited at times in camp, said the redshirt freshman would play a lot this year.

“We're in pretty good shape right now,” he said on Carolina Calls last Thursday. “Kudos to Clint Haggard, Luke Day and his strength and conditioning team, Yimi Rodriguez for the nutrition, the way they've prepared our guys for the season and keeping them healthy.”

As previously reported, EDGE Bryan Thomas Jr., TE Reid Mikeska, TE Nick Elksnis and EDGE Elijah Davis were held out of the Gamecocks' final scrimmage two weekends ago.

Beamer didn't provide any updates on those guys on Tuesday, but of that group, only Thomas is listed in Saturday's rankings.

Safety Zahbari Sandy is out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in the spring.

The Gamecocks open the 2024 season on August 31 at 4:15 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium against Old Dominion.
