School reviews safety protocols after taser incident at football game

Altoona School District officials say authorities are reviewing safety protocols following an alleged Taser incident at a recent high school football game.

District officials confirmed to 6 News that a student was found in possession of a Taser on the grounds of Mansion Park Stadium on Friday during the Mountain Lions' season-opening game against Hollidaysburg.

Several witnesses shared a video of the incident on social media, which appears to show a district police officer confronting the student.

“Safety protocols are currently in place for Mansion Park Stadium, which will be communicated to our students and families prior to the start of football season and will also be communicated to visiting teams and their fans. These policies include the expected behavior of all spectators, including students. It is our practice to review these policies to further ensure the safety of the stadium and make adjustments as needed,” a district spokesperson said.

Officials said the stadium's safety policies are currently being reviewed and will likely be updated following the incident.

The identity of the student will not be disclosed.

Altoona Police indicate that the incident is being investigated by AASD Police Services.
