Gas leak leads to evacuation in Lawrenceburg

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Parts of downtown Lawrenceburg were evacuated Tuesday due to a gas leak.

Anderson County's emergency manager said a construction crew damaged a utility line on Main Street late Tuesday morning.

“A construction company damaged a gas line. They did the right thing, called ATMOS and got to the scene before us,” said Battalion Chief Jimmy Robinson of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department.

As a precautionary measure, businesses and residents in the immediate vicinity of Main Street, College Street and Woodford Street were evacuated.

Anderson County Schools officials told us that Anderson County Middle School and Saffell Street Elementary School were also sheltering in place as a precaution.

Atmos Energy says the leak has been sealed. They say the gas line will be shut down until the property owner is ready for a new supply.
