Troy Ave released from prison, drives home with Lamborghini and a bag full of cash

Troy Ave was released from Rikers Island prison in New York City after being incarcerated there since February.

He commemorated the occasion with an Instagram post on Monday (August 26), sharing a picture of himself in front of a Rikers Island sign holding a bag full of cash with a red Lamborghini Urus parked next to him. He captioned the post, “Ya boi home!”

In a video clip shared by DJ Akademiks, the rapper can be heard saying: “We're out. I want to go straight to the airport.”

Earlier this year, the Brooklyn rapper turned himself in to begin serving his prison sentence for his involvement in the 2016 New York City shooting that left his bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter dead. Troy, who was scheduled to open for TI that night, got into an altercation with rival Daryl “Taxstone” Campbell in the green room before he got a chance to perform. Campbell – who shot McPhatter and killed three other people – was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault and two counts of second-degree illegal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to 35 years behind bars.

The day Troy turned himself in, he posted a video message on Instagram. “I'm running to the courtroom. You may not see me for a while, but know that the streets are a myth,” he said. “Someone shot me. Instead of laying down and dying, I would have been a hero, a martyr. I'm taking the gun and walking away.”

He added: “There you have it, here are the consequences. We don't cry over spilled milk. You take the lemons and make lemonade. You all support and carry it on. And send prayers; prayers count more than anything… I'm out of here.”

Troy and his legal team initially charged him with attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons, but in exchange for his testimony against Campbell, they negotiated a one-year prison sentence.
