One dead and one injured in shooting in Abbeville

One man died and another was injured in a shooting in Abbeville on Monday evening.

Abbeville police say they were called to the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Drive for a report of a shooting. En route, they noticed a car speeding with its hazard lights on. It turned out to be someone taking one of the victims to a local hospital.

Two men were injured in the shooting. Jarrian “Nu Glizzy” Bernard, 20, was shot three times and died last night. A second victim, a 26-year-old man, was shot twice and is in stable condition at an Acadiana hospital.

During their investigation, officers learned that a large group was playing dice under the gazebo at Herod Village Apartments when a player pulled out an illegally modified weapon that was fully automatic. The man fired several rounds, striking the two victims.

This investigation led to a suspect, 20-year-old D'Jacqney “Poppy” Mitchell, who is wanted on a warrant for first-degree and attempted first-degree murder.
