20-year-old woman is fourth suspect in connection with live-streamed killing of Birmingham mother Asia Poole

A fourth defendant has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting at a Birmingham apartment complex last week that was captured live on Facebook videos.

Aacoreyah Denae Woods, 20, was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the killing of 21-year-old Asia Alyce Poole. She is charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of discharge of a firearm into an inhabited dwelling or vehicle.

Poole's best friend was injured in the shooting but survived.

Woods was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 10:28 a.m., jail records show. She is being held without bail.

Birmingham police announced Friday the arrest of Justin Jamond Hendrix, 20, and Taylor McCloud, 22, on the same charges. Both remain in custody without bail.

Janiyah Hendrix, 19, who was arguing with Poole before the shooting, is charged with first-degree auto theft after she fled the chaotic crime scene in Poole's district, according to authorities.

Janiyah Hendrix and Justin Hendrix are siblings. Their father was shot and killed in 2022 when he stopped at an ATM in Homewood on his way home from church.

Poole's acquaintances said there had been an ongoing dispute between her and Janiyah Hendrix over a man.

The climax came a week ago when a fight broke out between the two women in the parking lot.

The fight escalated into a brawl and a shootout at the Monarch Ridge apartment complex on Gallant Drive, formerly known as Valley Brook.

The video showed Poole in a fight that started with Janiyah Hendrix and later involved several people.

It apparently started near Poole's car in the parking lot and then moved to a passageway in one of the apartment buildings before a shooting started.

The fight and the subsequent shooting were captured live on video on Facebook.

Birmingham police arrived at the Monarch Ridge scene around 10 p.m. Initially, they reported hearing gunshots, but then officers were informed that someone had been shot, said Sergeant LaQuitta Wade.

When officers arrived, they found Poole unconscious in the alleyway of her own home. Birmingham firefighters pronounced her dead at the scene at 10:31 p.m.

Poole, a resident of Monarch Ridge, leaves behind a daughter who will start kindergarten this week. The child's 21-year-old father died on July 26.

Poole had posted his own live video from the parking lot shortly before the fight.

The videos captured the heartbreaking screams of Poole's brother and sister after the shooting.

Poole's friend was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was shot in the leg and has since been released from the hospital.

Wade said investigators found the fight appeared to have ended after it moved into the alleyway, and moments later the shots were fired.

After the shooting, Janiyah Hendrix reportedly fled in Poole's Ford sedan, which was also captured on video. Witnesses said Poole's car had already ignited when Poole jumped in and sped away.

The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in the parking lot of J Wings on Center Point Parkway.

The stolen car was found a short time later abandoned in the parking lot of J Wings on Center Point Parkway.

Police said they documented 168 shots fired.

Residents and witnesses described the shooting as “like something out of a movie” and said it appeared to be deliberate.

There were several shooters, it was said, some wore masks and were armed with assault rifles and pistols with Glock switches.

“That's why they came,” said one resident who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals. “They were so organized. They had cordoned off everything, penned everyone in.”

The investigation is ongoing.
