Police officer accuses Manchester fire chief of impersonating police officer

MANCHESTER, Maine (WABI) – The Manchester fire chief accused of abuse of office has resigned.

According to the Kennebec Journal, Fire Chief Francis Wozniak sent the city a letter announcing his retirement.

He had previously been placed on leave on June 28 after being warned for abuse of office.

Hallowell police alleged that Wozniak gave false information about his vehicle because it was equipped with a light bar that flashed red and blue lights.

Officials said he flashed blue lights during a call to a fire earlier this year.

Wozniak told the magazine that the decision to resign was not based on any charges or administrative exemptions.

He justified his decision by saying that he, quote, “did not like the direction in which the city was developing.”

Wozniak had held the office since 2019.

His court date on the identity fraud charge is October 8.
