Tyler Sullivan was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison after killing his 4-month-old son in Bristol, Bucks County in 2023

BRISTOL, Pa. (WPVI) — A Bucks County father who admitted killing his 4-month-old son last year was sentenced Tuesday to 15 to 30 years in prison.

Tyler Sullivan, 31, of Bristol pleaded guilty in May to first-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to investigators, Sullivan shook his baby at least eight times, leading to his death in May 2023.

On May 24, shortly after 11:30 p.m., police were called to Sullivan's home because a toddler had gone into cardiac arrest.

According to investigators, the child died the same day.

Before the verdict was announced on Tuesday, Sullivan gave a long, tearful statement, admitting “how guilty and ashamed” he was.

The child's mother and aunt submitted victim impact statements, which were also read during the hearing.

“My baby deserves a long, happy and wonderful life,” said the mother.

She stated that she was too traumatized to ever return to her former apartment, where she, Sullivan and the baby had lived. She also said that she kept having nightmares about the day her son died.

The baby's aunt said in her victim statement that her nephew's death left “a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”

In addition to the prison sentence, a judge ordered Sullivan to undergo psychiatric treatment.
