Teenager shot in road rage incident in Hillsborough County

The teenager was taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RIVERVIEW, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized Tuesday night after a road rage shooting, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports.

It happened around 5 p.m. near South Falkenburg Road and Camden Field Parkway in Riverview.

Officials said two northbound drivers got into an altercation, after which one of them fired shots at the other car.

One of the bullets hit a 16-year-old girl who was sitting in the passenger seat of the car that was shot at.

The teenager was taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither driver was injured.

Investigators are still trying to determine how many shots were fired and what led to the shooting.

“There is simply no excuse for endangering a life because of a disagreement with another driver,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “There is absolutely no reason for an innocent 16-year-old to be in the hospital for an incident of road rage.”

The investigation is ongoing.
