Officers were searching for a murder suspect. Then he fell through the ceiling

A fugitive wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Tennessee earlier this year was captured Monday after falling through the ceiling of the Memphis home where he was hiding, federal authorities said.

Deario Wilkerson, 20, was unharmed and taken into custody without incident. He is charged with first-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon in connection with the April 2 killing of Troy Cunningham northeast of downtown Memphis, the U.S. Marshal's Service said in a news release.

A department task force tracked Wilkerson to the house and surrounded it as he tried to hide in the attic, the press release said.

Wilkerson was one of three suspects identified in connection with Cunningham's killing. According to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office, the killing occurred after the suspects stole Cunningham's gun and fired it at him.

Cunningham was shot in the back of the head as he tried to flee the area, prosecutors said in a press release.

The other two suspects had previously been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting, prosecutors said. An arrest warrant was issued against Wilkerson in May.

It was unclear Tuesday whether Wilkerson has an attorney representing him. None was listed in court records.
