BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (KERO) — The job fair aims to connect job seekers with job openings in all 14 city departments.

  • The City of Bakersfield is hosting its third annual job fair.
  • The goal of the job fair is to reduce the unemployment rate in Kern County.
  • All 14 city departments will be represented at the job fair.
  • There are 177 vacancies in the city.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:

The City of Bakersfield is hosting its third annual job fair, offering residents of Kern County and the City of Bakersfield the opportunity to learn about all 14 departments.

Shayla Collins, human resources manager for the City of Bakersfield, says, “All departments will be represented at the job fair and will talk about jobs and opportunities in the city.”

Authorities say the city hires new employees in July of each fiscal year. The Employment Development Department (EDD) has released revised and preliminary estimates of civilian and industrial employment. Currently, 354,700 people are employed in Kern County, with unemployment at 37,100. The city of Bakersfield says it has 177 job openings.

Shayla tells me that many of the city's employees come from the job fair, but even those who can't make it there are still opportunities to land a job with the city.

“On the website, you can sign up for job alerts. If the position isn't open or you can't come, you can sign up for job alerts and as soon as the position opens up, you'll get an email,” she says.

The theme of this year's job fair is “The Sound of Success.” The job fair will take place on August 30th at the Mechanics Bank Arena.
