1 arrested for attempted murder with stabbing at Marina apartment complex

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said it arrested a man for an attempted stabbing murder that occurred Monday night. Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex near 21200 Ord Avenue in the East Garrison neighborhood after receiving reports of a man with a knife threatening to hurt people. The man allegedly ran through the complex and attempted to enter an apartment, an officer spokesman said. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, 20 to 25 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with long hair in a ponytail. He was seen wearing a yellow sweatshirt with the word “polo” on the front, black pants and a ski mask, according to the spokesman. Officers learned the suspect confronted the victim and then attacked and stabbed him. The victim sustained moderate injuries and checked himself into a local hospital, the spokesman said. Video surveillance and victim statements helped identify the suspect as Anthony Farfan, 21, of East Garrison. A search warrant was subsequently obtained for Farfan's East Garrison home. On Tuesday, at approximately 5:17 p.m., as officers were about to execute the search warrant, Farfan attempted to exit his home through a back door but was stopped by officers. Farfan was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained Monday evening, the spokesperson said. Farfan is booked into the Monterey County Jail on attempted murder, criminal threat, attempted burglary and possession of a weapon.
