Police make arrest after Park Ridge rush hour shooting – Chicago Tribune

Park Ridge Police have arrested a 24-year-old Lake County man in connection with a road rage incident on Monday, August 19, in which shots were fired and police had to shut down a busy Uptown thoroughfare during the evening rush hour.

Cook County prosecutors have admitted to a felony charge.

At about 5:09 p.m. that day, Park Ridge police responded to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Touhy Avenue and Busse Highway, just north of the Park Ridge Metra station. Police confirmed that a shooting had occurred, but those involved had left the scene, a police statement said.

Park Ridge officers found that two of the three vehicles involved in the incident, a gray Hyundai and a dark Honda, were stopped in front of the Niles Police Station while the occupants were milling around outside the vehicles, police said. The shooting was the result of an incident of road rage. The perpetrator fled the scene in a black Jaguar.

The investigation revealed that the drivers of the Honda and Hyundai were involved in an argument between the driver of the Jaguar and the driver of the moving vehicle, and that at one point the Jaguar rear-ended the Hyundai, the police news release said. All three vehicles came to a stop at the Touhy intersection near Busse, where the drivers of the Honda and Hyundai exited their vehicles, approached the Jaguar, knocking and hitting it.

The defendant then fired three shots at the other two drivers, ultimately hitting the Hyundai, the press release states. No one was hit by the shots and the defendant and the drivers of the other two vehicles involved fled the scene.

After sending a radio message to surrounding police departments, Skokie police spotted the black Jaguar and initiated a traffic stop. The defendant did not stop, police said, and after a brief low-speed chase, Skokie police were able to stop the Jaguar and take the defendant into custody. During the arrest, police said
A 9mm pistol was found on the defendant. The defendant had a FOID card and a license to carry a concealed weapon.

Park Ridge police closed Touhy Avenue near Busse Highway during the evening rush hour on Monday, August 19, after shots were fired. Police later said three cars were involved in an incident of driving aggression.

The defendant was transported to the Park Ridge Police Department, where Park Ridge Detectives contacted the Cook County District Attorney's Office and received authorization for felony charges.

An arrest does not constitute evidence of a conviction.
