Review of episode 4 of “Hard Knocks”: Ian Wheeler’s injury takes center stage

The bottom end of the Bears team received most of the attention in the fourth episode of “Hard Knocks,” which aired Tuesday night.

Ian Wheeler, Howard's undrafted rookie running back, was the centerpiece of the show, which began with assistant running backs coach Jennifer King wishing him good health and ended with Wheeler's torn ACL, injured in the last preseason game in Kansas City, hugging his mother outside the locker room as tears streamed down her face.

General manager Ryan Poles then told Wheeler, who the Bears placed on the injured list on Saturday, that “the entire team is behind him.”

The show also focused on the performance of fellow running back Velus Jones in the finale, when he ran 13 times for 111 yards and scored a 39-yard touchdown.

The documentary showed action off the field, including quarterbacks Tyson Bagent, Brett Rypien and Austin Reed visiting Willis Tower together. Later, Bagent watched his father Travis, one of the world's best arm wrestlers, compete at a bar in Kansas City.

Safety Adrian Colbert told the story of a near-death experience on a bicycle at age 9 and later meditated during a sound bath.

The biggest personality to appear on “Hard Knocks,” however, was probably Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. On the field after the game, Kelce approached coach Matt Eberflus and said he was excited about what he saw from the Bears.

“I enjoy watching you guys,” Kelce said.
