Former 76ers front office member lands coaching job with Blazers

It was reported on Tuesday that a former member of the Philadelphia 76ers front office will take on a new position during the 2024-2025 NBA season.

Accordingly ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Sergi Oliva will coach Rip City Remix, the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Working in Portland is not a new beginning for Oliva. In 2022, Oliva joined the Blazers' management team as Assistant General Manager.

Oliva's executive career began with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. Prior to the Daryl Morey era, he initially worked as a basketball operations analyst. When Oliva left Philadelphia, he left behind a position as vice president of strategy.

When Oliva joined the Utah Jazz in 2020, he was promoted to assistant coach by Quin Snyder. He stayed in Utah for a few seasons before moving to Portland.

The start of Oliva's career as a head coach in the G League does not mean the end of his career as a front office coach. According to Wojnarowski, the Blazers intend to have Oliva resume his role with the Blazers at the end of the season.

The Philadelphia 76ers on SI The show is available on the streaming platforms Spotify, Apple and Amazon.

Last season, former Blazers and Pistons assistant coach Jim Moran coached the Remix. They posted an 18-16 record and finished 10th in the G League's Western Conference. Moran moved on to become an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings.

Now Oliva will take over to continue his coaching work and review the Trail Blazers' development system as they rebuild.
