Teenager arrested after viral ‘wheelie’ stunt on motorcycle

PETALING JAYA: A 15-year-old boy was arrested by police after a video of him doing a dangerous “wheelie” on a motorcycle went viral on all social media platforms.

In a statement on its Facebook page, IPD Hilir Perak wrote: “On August 26, at around 5pm, a team of officers from Hilir Perak IPD's Traffic Investigation and Surveillance Division, based on information received from the public and intelligence gathered, arrested a man at PPR Flats, Teluk Intan.”

“He had performed a dangerous wheelie stunt at Kilometer 1, Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, which posed a serious danger to himself and other road users.

“The suspect has been taken to Hilir Perak Traffic Department for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving on a public road,” it said.

“The police have a zero-tolerance policy towards dangerous driving or motorcycling.

“If convicted, the person faces a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of between 5,000 and 15,000 RM.”

“In addition, the offender would lose his right to hold or obtain a driver's license for a period of five years from the date of conviction,” the statement said.
