Suspect in Kalihi bus shooting charged with attempted murder | Crime & Courts

Jonathan Ten appeared in court today on charges of attempted murder and weapons offenses following the Kalihi bus shooting involving a 16-year-old boy.

HONOLULU (Island News) – After a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed on a bus in Kalihi on August 9, 2024, Jonathan Ten was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday, August 27.

Ten was charged with attempted second-degree murder and three firearms offenses. The shooting occurred on Kamehameha IV Road in Kalihi on the 9th.

“Mr. Ten is already charged with kidnapping and first-degree sexual abuse in another case, where his victim was a minor under the age of 14. At the time of the shooting on TheBus, he was free on $250,000 bail pending trial in that case. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to protect the public by obtaining convictions in both cases,” said District Attorney Steve Alm.

Ten is sentenced to life imprisonment for the second-degree charge, with the possibility of parole pending trial. The court has decided that he will not be granted bail.
