Fourth arrest in connection with shooting in Birmingham apartment

A fourth person was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the ambush shooting death of a 21-year-old woman at Monarch Ridge Apartments last week. At 10:28 a.m., 20-year-old Aacoreyah Denae Woods was booked into the Jefferson County Jail. She is charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of using a firearm into an inhabited dwelling or vehicle. A teenager and two men were arrested earlier, police said. Ja'niyah Hendrix, 19, is charged with theft of property. She was the person who got into an argument with the victim. More charges are possible. Justin Hendrix, 20, and Taylor McCloud, 22, are charged with murder and attempted murder. The attempted murder charge stems from the fact that another man was injured in the shooting, police said. The shooting began after two women, one of whom was allegedly the victim, Asia Poole, got into a fight before the shots were fired. There were cars with windows and tires shot out and many bullet holes in the walls and windows of the apartment. “We're talking about a 21-year-old who lost her life, can't raise her child, left a 4-year-old without a father and mother,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. Her neighbors say they fear retaliation. There used to be a security guard in a guard shack at the entrance to the apartments, but that shack is now boarded up. Residents said that was because someone had shot out the windows.

The shooting began after two women – one of whom was reportedly the victim, Asia Poole – got into a fight before the shots were fired.

“We are talking about a 21-year-old who has lost her life, cannot raise her child and left a four-year-old without a father and mother,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.

Her neighbors say they fear retaliation, but what began as a fistfight between Poole and another woman ended in what they describe as an ambush.
