IDF announces death of soldier in Gaza Strip

The 19-year-old Staff Sergeant (St.-Sgt.) Amit Friedman was killed early Wednesday morning during fighting in the southern Gaza Strip.

St. Sgt. Friedman served in the Nahal Brigade in the 932nd Battalion.

After his death he was promoted from Sergeant to St. Sgt.

Friedman was from Or Yehuda. His family was notified.

Following the IDF announcement, Or Yehuda Mayor Liat Shohet visited Friedman's family to “embrace them with warmth, give them strength and support, and do everything possible to help in these difficult times,” according to an announcement from the city's spokesperson.

Funeral in honor of the youth and in memory of Friedman

Friedman was a former student at Yuvalim High School, where he excelled in several sports, especially basketball, and was also a member and counselor of the local Boy Scout troop, Shohet said, adding that she had heard stories “about his extraordinary character and the role model he embodied.”

According to the announcement, two flag battles will take place as part of the funeral, which will be held in coordination with the family.

The first exhibition will represent the “youth, members and graduates of the Boy Scouts of Judah. ​​It will begin at the family home on Klil HaHoreshet Street and will pass through Siglon, Dekel and Bar Lev-Dekel Square. We ask the Boy Scouts to gather with Israeli flags starting at 2:30 p.m.”

The second flag parade is for “the residents of Or Yehuda and those who wish to honor his memory. It begins at 3:15 p.m. at the entrance to Yehud Cemetery and along its path.”
