Man allegedly threatened victim in Escambia County with machete

A man is accused of threatening people with a machete and jumping out of a glass window to escape from police.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO), the incident occurred Sunday at a residence near Empire Drive in Pensacola. Officials say the incident stemmed from a custody dispute.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victims, who stated that suspect Roderick Lewis arrived at their residence in a silver Jeep armed with a machete and threatened them.

According to ECSO, officers managed to locate Lewis at his girlfriend's home on Dover Avenue, but during his arrest he jumped through a glass window and fled from officers on foot.

Deputies said a search was conducted but Lewis was not found.

On Monday around 1 p.m., an officer spotted Lewis' silver Jeep, driven by Crystal Sorrell. Officers say Lewis was a passenger in the Jeep.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but Sorrell fled the scene at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. Officers performed a PIT maneuver that brought the vehicle to a stop. Lewis then fled the scene on foot. Sorrell was arrested at the scene.

Lewis was eventually found in a backyard on Fremont Avenue and arrested.

Sorrell was charged with fleeing and eluding. Lewis was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, resisting an officer without use of force and possession of marijuana.

According to ECSO, Lewis was taken to the hospital where his injuries were examined.
