Florida's 'Deadpool Killer' Wade Wilson sentenced to death for 'gruesome' murders of two women

A man convicted of killing two women in Florida in 2019 was reportedly sentenced to death on Tuesday.

Tattooed Wade Wilson, nicknamed the “Deadpool Killer” because of his name after the Marvel Comics character, showed no emotion when the verdict was announced, the New York Post reported.

The 30-year-old was found guilty Strangling Kristine Melton to death as she slept the morning after he met her at a bar. He then beat, strangled and ran over Diane Ruiz with his car after seeing her on the street that same day.

“The evidence shows that the murders were heinous, cruel and savage and that the second murder was cold-blooded, calculated and premeditated,” District Judge Nicholas Thompson said in handing down the verdict, agreeing with the jury's recommendation to impose two death sentences, one for each murder.

His legal team filed a motion for a retrial or acquittal on July 3, which was rejected by the judge on August 15, local media outlet The News-Press reported.

The verdict was originally scheduled for July 23, but was postponed due to a request from the defense regarding the scheduling of expert witness testimony.

“This is not the end. The end is when the defendant takes his last breath and I will be present at the execution. That is a promise,” said Ruiz's father, Felix Ruiz.
