Team’s Bat Dog keeps her job despite on-field incident – 104.5 WOKV

A minor league baseball team in Florida introduced its new “bat dog” to the public, but the dog ended up doing its business on the field.

Lucy May, a 10-month-old Labrador Retriever, was introduced by the Clearwater Threshers, the Single-A affiliate team of the Philadelphia Phillies, during their game against the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Lucy ran out of the Threshers’ dugout in the third inning and Instead of picking up a dropped bat, he ran into the opposing team's dugout.

The dog then seemed to have a fit of zoomies and made her way to the infield, where she earned the cheers of the crowd by doing her business near the pitcher's mound.

The team's promotion and game entertainment manager immediately jumped into action to clean up Lucy's mess.

The dog's unusual debut went viral on social media, prompting the team to respond: “Even though she doesn't do it quite right, she 1000% KEEPS her job!”
