Further details are expected to be released on Wednesday afternoon.

LAKELAND, Fla. – A man is behind bars after police say he shot officers multiple times in Lakeland on Tuesday.

According to authorities, two Lakeland Police detectives were conducting surveillance in an area on Atlantic Avenue between Vermont Avenue and Illinois Avenue. At approximately 5:47 p.m., a “known suspect” identified as Arthur Williams approached the detectives' car and fired multiple shots at them.

The investigators were not injured, but authorities said their car was hit by bullets several times.

After the shooting, police obtained an arrest warrant for Williams. He was arrested early Wednesday morning in Tampa, authorities said.

Few additional details are available at this time. Lakeland police said they will provide an update with more details around 2 p.m. Wednesday. 10 Tampa Bay plans to have a crew at the press conference and will update this story as details are released.
