Former Stoughton police officer charged with death row – NBC Boston

A former Stoughton, Massachusetts police detective has been charged in connection with the death of Sandra Birchmore. He is accused of killing her and staging her apartment to make it look like she had committed suicide.

According to court documents, Matthew Farwell is accused of having a sexual relationship with Birchmore for several years, even before she was 16 years old.

Birchmore, who was three months pregnant, was found dead in 2021. Although her death was initially ruled a suicide, according to the Boston Globe, a pathologist hired by her family concluded that Birchmore's death was actually a homicide.

According to court documents, Birchmore became pregnant around 2020 and told Farwell he was the father of her child. In January 2021, a friend of Birchmore's allegedly called Stoughton police to report that Farwell had had sex with Birchmore.

The indictment says Farwell strangled Birchmore in February 2021 and then staged her apartment to make the death look like a suicide.

Birchmore's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
