According to Olympia police, a 22-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the hand early Tuesday morning in the west of the city.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of first degree assault.

At around 2:15 a.m., police were called to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Fern Street Southwest after receiving 911 calls about a fight and screaming.

When police arrived at the apartment, they found a woman and two men, one of whom was “bleeding profusely from his hand,” Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

Police later learned that the two men began arguing and eventually a fight broke out. The suspect, also 22, grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim while threatening to kill him, Lower said.

Police believe the victim had his hands raised in a defensive position when he was stabbed, Lower said.

The victim was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The suspect, who also suffered an injury, was treated at MultiCare Capital Medical Center, Lower said.

After the hospital exonerated the suspect, he was arrested.

Lower said the woman helped with the investigation.
