Man pulled out knife during road rage incident in South Brunswick: PD

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A North Brunswick man was arrested and charged Monday following a road rage incident on Route 1, South Brunswick police said.

Luis Valentin, 27, of North Brunswick, was charged with terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

On Monday at 3:25 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting that the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz was threatening a man as they drove south on Route 1.

The victim said the driver of the Mercedes Benz threw coins at his car and spat. When they stopped at a traffic light, he also pulled out a knife and threatened to kill him, police said.

According to the victim, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who was later identified as Valentin, shouted at the victim to give way.

Sergeant Salvatore Fama was traveling on Route 1 South, observed the Mercedes-Benz in the area of ​​New Road and conducted a vehicle stop.

Valentin told Fama that another car had cut him off and that an argument had broken out between them due to aggression behind the wheel, police reported.

Sgt. Fama and Officer Joseph Penney searched the Mercedes-Benz and found a knife.

Valentine was arrested and taken to police headquarters for case processing. He was released on a summons pending his first court appearance.
