CohnReznick opens digital forensics laboratory

CohnReznick, a top-20 accounting firm, has opened a digital forensics lab outside Washington, DC as part of its growing cybersecurity and incident response capabilities.

The Digital Forensics Lab serves as the hub for a range of incident response solutions, helping organizations determine the nature and extent of a cyber incident, collect and preserve digital evidence, and take action to protect against future cyberattacks and security breaches.

Led by CohnReznick senior advisor David Sun, who has 25 years of experience in advanced cybersecurity and digital forensics, the lab and team will support organizations involved in a cyber incident:

  • Collect and preserve digital evidence from the devices and systems affected by the incident.
  • Create a timeline of events and identify the methods used by attackers.
  • Identify the root cause and nature of the incident.
  • Assist the company in complying with data breach reporting obligations and regulations.
  • Help recover lost or compromised data.
  • Provide expert testimony if litigation arises as a result of the incident.

“Just last month, Check Point Research reported that the number of cyberattacks worldwide increased 30% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024, reaching 1,636 attacks per organization per week,” Sun said in a statement. “As these incidents become more frequent, the damage they cause may also increase.”

“Our lab and the team that supports it are committed to helping our clients protect their valuable data and digital assets,” he added. “In doing so, we also help them protect their reputation and maintain their credibility with their key stakeholders.”

The goal of the lab is to “help our clients develop a culture of resilience through their cybersecurity, privacy and incident response strategies and systems,” said Bhavesh Vadhani, global head of cybersecurity, technology risk and privacy at CohnReznick.

“Our digital forensics lab is part of a growing toolkit that helps customers build, execute, protect and transform their risk management programs,” he said.
