Laredo boy arrested for possible shooting threat at high school

According to Laredo police, a juvenile was arrested in connection with a possible shooting threat at Nixon High School.

On August 27, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Laredo Crime Stoppers received a tip of a possible shooting threat at Nixon High School.

Crime Stoppers notified Laredo Police and launched an investigation. Detectives worked through the night to identify the person responsible for these alleged threats.

In the early hours of the morning, authorities were able to locate the suspect and identify him as a 15-year-old youth. The boy's parents fully cooperated during the investigation, police said.

“Officers thoroughly searched the home for weapons but found none. It was also determined that the juvenile was no longer a student at Laredo ISD,” the LPD said in a statement.

The parents were informed of the incident, authorities said. The teen was arrested for terroristic threats and fear of serious bodily harm, a third-degree felony. He was taken to the Webb County Youth Village.

“The Laredo Police Department takes these threats seriously and will pursue them to the fullest extent of the law,” police said.

“We would like to thank the anonymous whistleblower who alerted us to this threat and Laredo Crime Stoppers for promptly notifying authorities. The swift action on this investigation shows how seriously these threats to schools are taken.”
