Orange lobster rescued and released back into the wild

LONG ISLAND, NY (NBC, KYMA/KECY) – Clementine, a rare orange lobster rescued on Long Island, has been released.

This orange lobster, one of 30 million, was rescued and returned to the sea by an animal welfare group after being spotted at a Stop and Shop on Long Island.

Clementine arrived in early July with a shipment of traditional brown lobsters and became an instant celebrity as she was fed shrimp by management.

The store offered the Long Island Aquarium a pardon, but the aquarium did not want the rare lobster.

Humane Long Island became aware of the unusual crustacean and prepared a saltwater tank for rehabilitation.

Now Clementine has been released into Long Island Sound, where she travels 100 miles or more each year.

Humane Long Island thanked Stop and Shop management with a gift basket that included lobster-shaped vegan chocolate and vegan crab-free cake.
