Trial against parents who allegedly hid fentanyl tablets in diapers

TYLER, Texas – Trial dates have been set for East Texas parents accused of placing fentanyl pills in their baby's diaper.

Dredarian Ester, 27, and Jada Speight, 22, both of Tyler, are charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams in connection with a traffic stop in May.

According to court records, Ester and Speight's trials are scheduled for Sept. 30 in 241st District Court. Ester's next pretrial hearing is Sept. 11, and Speight's next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 12.

Ester and Speight were both arrested after an officer stopped them at a 7-Eleven on 3400 Van Highway in Tyler. A 6-month-old girl was in the back seat. The officer noticed the smell of marijuana and searched the vehicle to arouse suspicion. A conversation between Ester and Speight led the officer to suspect there may be narcotics hidden in the baby's clothing.

The officer asked Speight if she was going to change the baby's diaper, and as she was changing the diaper, the officer saw a pill bottle in the diaper. The officer recognized the contents of the bottle as compressed fentanyl pills, according to SCSO. Ester admitted to placing the pills in the diaper.
