Police release photos of wanted shooter at White Palace Grill

Chicago police are searching for a man in connection with a shooting at the White Palace Grill restaurant in the South Loop on Friday.

Video footage shows the gunman wearing a vest marked “Officer” and a badge, then he can be seen pulling out a gun and shooting a 42-year-old man who was leaving the restaurant in the 1100 block of South Canal Street at about 2:58 a.m., Chicago police said.

The man suffered numerous gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The shooter fled in a silver Ford Focus, police said.

The restaurant was full of guests who had come to town for the Democratic National Convention.

Colorado State Representative Javier Mabrey was enjoying breakfast at the diner when he heard a “very, very loud noise.”

“We were just sitting there eating pancakes when all of a sudden we heard a very, very loud noise and gunshots at close range that definitely came from the restaurant,” Mabrey, 34, told the Sun-Times.

Mabrey, a gun violence prevention advocate, initially thought it was a mass attack.
